How exciting! I would definitely take a backpack, because there are lots of narrow steps and few lifts in hostels and also cobblestoned streets haha. Plus it’s less in the way on public transport. Also I find I can walk quicker if I’ve got a backpack, and mine weighs a bit over 12kg, as well as my little one I carry on my front. I suppose it depends on how long you’re going and where you’re staying. Also a good backpack is expensive; I borrowed mine, normally they’re about $500-600
